About the camp

The pitches, mostly about 10 by 10 metres, are spread through an old apple and pear orchard; in spring the trees are in blossom and in late summer the fruit ripens and is pressed into Maatsap, the ground's own juice, sold on site in 1.5-litre cartons. Shrubs and trees were planted all around to screen the ground, which also makes it a little warmer and calmer in wind than the surrounding land, and old woven branches form a habitat wall where a pair of owls lives. The big electrically heated sauna is warmed every Sunday by experienced stokers who give relaxing, fragrant opgiets, with a sunbathing lawn and the swimming pond between sessions; the pond has a shielded part for children. Walking and cycling start at the gate, and the year brings green-work days, sauna events, a cycling week and the creative Maatweek in September.
