Campsite
A wooded family campsite on the highest point of Markelo, in the Hof van Twente hills of Overijssel, and the oldest camping in the village. It runs as a season camping with annual and seasonal pitches: its own tariff prices year and season places rather than nightly stays.

About the camp
Monte Bello began in 1919, when a troop of scouts pitched tents on the Herikerberg, and the site still tells that story first. Today it is a green camping of spacious grass pitches among dense forest, hills and meadows, where many places are taken by caravans on sewer, water and electricity; every pitch has a 10 ampere connection and the sanitary building is within walking distance. The 2018 sanitary block has underfloor heating, roomy showers and baby toilet facilities. A heated 12 by 6 metre pool with a toddler pool, a playground with a zip line, a wasserette and a recreation room carry the family side, and in high season a recreation team runs sjoel and darts tournaments, children's afternoons, trout fishing, GPS and ghost walks, and guided walks and cycle tours.

The site lies at the highest point of Markelo in the municipality of Hof van Twente, once named the best-preserved historic cultural landscape of the Netherlands: small woods and meadows divided by hedgerows and brooks, with the Herikerberg forest around it. Markelo village is within 2 km, with an open-air theatre, a museum, cycle rental, a tourist office and the De Vijf Heuvels swimming pool.
