About the camp

De Mierenhoop is not a commercial campsite but a verenigingsterrein: the members of Lichtbond Noord laid out and maintain the grounds, the sanitary buildings and the clubhouse themselves, and the club's own camping field, youth field and three-hectare nature reserve Homansheem are all on the same terrain. The lay-out is deliberately open and spacious rather than parcelled into rows of hedges, and the club writes that it puts its effort into safety, freedom, respect, openness and hospitality. It was voted verenigingsterrein van het jaar for 2023, 2024 and 2025 in the Blootkompas survey. Modernisation runs through the site: an energy-neutral sanitary building and solar panels on the clubhouse roofs. Alongside the pitches there is a 12 by 25 m swimming pool, a large terrace and sun meadow, a sauna that opens on Saturday afternoons, a bar and a snack kitchen in the clubhouse 't Mierenust, a youth hut and youth camping field, a bonfire place and, in Homansheem, grazing goats, orchids and sundew along a walking route with benches and small bridges. During the season the club programmes film and games evenings and a coffee morning.
