Oetdoor
Netherlands · from €20 per night
A small-scale Scandinavian-style camping site in the Dutch Achterhoek, where pitches sit on open fields beside a swimming lake. Nights are priced as a flat pitch rate including two people, one piece of camping gear and one car, and the site also rents stuga's, tipi's, forest cabins and domes. It doubles as a group and meeting venue, and about twelve weekends a year it is reserved exclusively for groups.

About the camp
Oetdoor sells itself as an outdoor beleving rather than glamping or a standard camping: the concept is to go 'oet', meaning weather, bugs and mud all belong to it, and the owners ask guests to light their own campfire, split their own wood and take the cold dip in the lake opposite. The Swedish red cabins are there for atmosphere, not theming. The emphasis is simplicity and quiet: no entertainment team, no amplified music at any hour, and the page says plainly that teenagers looking for nightlife are not its audience. Children have swings, climbing frames, a trampoline, a sandpit and pedal tractors, and there is an indoor space to sit dry in. Canoes, SUPs, kayaks and bicycles are free to use, and a wood-fired hot tub and sauna belong to the on-site wilderness spa.
